In the Queen’s Speech on 19 December, the Government announced plans to end “excessively long journeys” for fattening or slaughter. This is a huge step forward – all thanks to campaigners like you. But we must continue to push for a total ban on cruel live exports.
A ban would save thousands of sheep and young calves every year from needless suffering during long, gruelling journeys overseas.
Boris Johnson: will you deliver a ban on UK live exports for fattening and slaughter?

UK residents: Please complete the form below to ask Boris Johnson to deliver a ban on British live exports for fattening and slaughter. If you live outside the UK, please click here for other actions you can take for farm animals.
At every stage of the battle to ban this cruel trade, compassionate people like you have fought on the frontlines for animals without a voice of their own. Over the past few decades, dedicated campaigners have helped reduce the number of farm animals exported each year from 2.5 million in the mid-1990s to less than 50,000 in 2018.
In 2019 alone, amazing people like you:
- Took part in over 50 activities and events all over the UK on Stop Live Transport International Awareness Day
- Wrote 26,525 messages to the former Defra Secretary of State, Theresa Villiers, urging her to introduce a ban
- Sent 11,730 emails to MPs nationwide, calling for their support for a ban
- Wrote 66,413 messages to prospective MPs, asking them to be a voice for animals and against live exports in the new Parliament
Now, we need your compassion and commitment once more: please, will you urge Boris Johnson to stay true to his word and end live exports?
When UK farm animals are exported, they lose the country’s legal protection. This means they are at risk not only of terrible suffering during their journey, but also of horrendous treatment on reaching their destination – in conditions that, in many cases, would be illegal in the UK.
Plus, in November 2019, the world witnessed yet another reminder of why the global, barbaric live export trade must end. A cargo ship carrying 14,000 sheep tragically sank off the Romanian coast. The scenes of the animals’ suffering were heart-breaking to watch.
The UK must lead the way in ending this horrific trade. Please – call on the Prime Minister to turn words into actions and ban UK live exports for fattening and slaughter.
