URGE POUNDLAND, B&M AND HOME BARGAINS TO GO CAGE FREE

Combi cage system

In the past few years, dozens of food businesses have pledged to go cage free on whole eggs and give hens the chance of a higher welfare future.

Now, we need your help to urge Poundland, B&M and Home Bargains – the UK’s three largest bargain retailers – to join the cage free revolution.

Thanks to campaigners across the UK, our End the Cage Age campaign has already secured cage free commitments from many huge restaurant chains, including Frankie & Benny’s, Café Rouge and Pizza Express. On top of this, all the UK’s major supermarket chains have either stopped selling eggs from caged hens, or have pledged to go cage free by 2025 at the latest.

But the fight isn’t over. Around 16 million UK hens still endure cage cruelty every year – confined and suffering for their entire adult lives. And, if any retailers refuse to go cage free, a better future for these animals is at risk.

Unfortunately, Poundland, B&M and Home Bargains still sell eggs from caged hens and, despite multiple letters from Compassion, they have failed to make a cage free commitment. We need your help to make sure they don’t profit from hens that are kept in cages.

Some shoppers are totally in the dark about the conditions in which caged hens are kept. They might buy eggs wherever is most convenient, or cheapest. So, if bargain businesses keep selling caged eggs, the pledges of other major retailers could be undermined, and millions of hens may stay trapped in cages.

We need your help to stop this from happening. Please, email Poundland, B&M and Home Bargains now to urge them to stop selling eggs from caged hens.

Every cage free commitment is a step closer to a food industry free from cages. It also adds to the pressure on the Government to ban cages for once and for all. Please, help ensure there is no market for eggs from caged hens and bring us closer to a cage free UK.
