Make a difference for millions of UK pigs

The UK Government has launched a public consultation on whether it should ban the use of CO₂ slaughter for pigs. The consultation closes on the 21 December 2026. We need as many people as possible to show that the pubic want this cruel practice banned.

Every year, nearly 10 million UK pigs are put into cages and forced into pits filled with CO₂ gas, where they experience panic, breathlessness, and severe distress as the gas causes pain in their eyes, throat and lungs before losing consciousness after up to 60 seconds. For the sake of these vulnerable farmed animals, it is vital that the UK Government implement a ban on this cruel practice and move towards better alternatives, as recommended by the Animal Welfare Committee.

Please respond to Defra’s consultation, urging them to end CO₂ slaughter in the UK.
