Right now, products can still be marketed as 'happy' and 'healthy', even when animals are suffering from serious health and welfare problems.

Without clear, honest labelling, the reality of animal welfare levels remains hidden from the public. This allows poor welfare systems to continue without scrutiny, while higher welfare producers are not properly recognised. And shoppers are left in the dark, unable to choose products that align with their values.

Mandatory method of production labelling would help shine a light on how animals are really treated, giving shoppers the right to choose. It would also support higher welfare farms to distinguish their products and help shift away from lower welfare systems.
