End cages for UK hens

Add your message to our book

Shockingly, four people in a phone box is about the same space that hens each have inside a cage! With such limited space they can't forage in the dirt, dustbathe and are severely restricted in their ability to move around. This causes immense physical discomfort and mental suffering.

We've been on the streets collecting mesesages in our replica red telephone box and now we're offering you the chance to make your voice heard by writing a personalised message to the UK Government, asking them to End the Cage Age for egg laying hens in the UK.

We’ll print your messages in a mock phone book and take it to Westminster along with our red telephone box to call to End the Cage Age – make sure that yours is one of them by writing your message today!

Take the extra step for caged hens

The more messages we can show to decision makers, the stronger our call becomes to end cages for UK hens. Please ask your friends to send a message by sharing ciwf.org.uk/Help-Caged-Hens or use the buttons below.

Not sure what to add to your message?

Don’t overthink it, authenticity is what makes your message powerful. Just speak from the heart and explain why ending cages for hens is important to you. Here are some extra ideas to help you get started!

  • 7 million hens in the UK are still kept in cages every year, confined to a space that is the equivalent to 4 people inside a telephone box.
  • Caged hens can’t fully dustbathe to clean themselves, and are severely restricted in their ability to move around, scratch for food and flap their wings.
  • Luxembourg, Austria, and Germany are phasing out cages or have banned them entirely. The UK claims to have some of the highest farmed animal welfare standards but when it comes to ending the cage age for laying hens, we are falling behind.
