Stop factory farming pollution

Email the Secretary of State

New joint research conducted by Compassion in World Farming, Sustain, the alliance for better food and farming, and Friends of the Earth shows that, every year, excessive amounts of muck from factory farms is spread on land across the UK.

Compassion’s previous research showed that the number of factory farms grew by 12% between 2016 and 2023 (just seven years) alone, which is shocking.

Not only is factory farming the biggest source of animal cruelty, but agriculture is the main driver for polluting rivers, which in turn harms wildlife protected areas and overwhelms local communities.

But there is a solution. Recently, a report from the Environmental Audit Committee made recommendations to the Government that, in areas with excessive nitrogen pollution, local authorities should be able to reject planning applications for even more factory farms. Makes sense, doesn’t it? With the National Planning Policy Framework currently being reviewed, we have the chance to urge the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to build in as a default that no new permissions for factory farming are granted.

So please urge Angela Rayner today to strengthen the law and build in a default to reject new permissions for factory farms so local authorities have the power to reject planning applications for new factory farms.

It takes less than two minutes to send this email and help stop the spread of cruel factory farming.
