Protect the Action Plan for Animal Welfare

Sign the open letter to the candidates for UK Prime Minister

The next UK Prime Minister will be announced in September, and we are urging them to put animal welfare at the top of their agenda.

In May 2021, the UK Government made a host of commitments on animal welfare. We’ve since seen the Animal Sentience Act become law, but they haven’t followed through on other promises, including several crucial steps for farmed animals:

  • Banning live exports for slaughter or fattening
  • Ensuring animal welfare standards are not compromised in future trade deals
  • Examining the use of farmed animal cages
  • Consulting on animal welfare labelling of meat and dairy products

We’re calling on the final two candidates in the Conservative party leadership race, Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss, to honour the animal welfare commitments in the Action Plan if they become the next Prime Minister.

Please take action now. Ask the candidates to make sure they fulfil the Government’s animal welfare commitments.
