Shocking Findings: SPANISH PIG ABUSE

Our investigation team recently visited fifteen pig farms in Spain. What we found could best be described as a catalogue of animal abuse.

• Living conditions and farming practices which are illegal under EU law.
• Animals living in filthy and appallingly cramped conditions.
• Pigs suffering routine mutilations like tail docking.
• Completely barren pens, without even so much as straw to occupy the pigs’ inquisitive minds.

Spain continues to be one of the worst offenders in terms of enforcing the law on tail docking and enrichment. Compassion is making a formal complaint about this issue to the European Commission but it is vital to keep up the pressure on the Spanish Minister to ensure this appalling and illegal treatment of pigs ends.
